The Kananaskis Grizzlies, Keepers of the Forest.
A self-taught wildlife photographer, I grew up in Kenya and moved to Calgary Alberta and fell in love with the natural beauty that surrounds this city. I started off taking pictures at the Inglewood Bird sanctuary and this slowly turned into a passion. I had done numerous trips to Kananaskis country and Banff National Park area and would always return empty handed and during one of our camping trips saw my first Grizzly bear run across the road, the poor fellow nearly got run over by one of the other vehicles. This was the start of my passion for the Grizzly bear and the Wildlife in the area.
Kananaskis country is about an hour’s drive from Calgary and early morning or late evens are the best times to spot wildlife. I take most of my pictures from the car as the wildlife is more comfortable around a car.
TIP:
Don’t get out of your Car if you see a Grizzly with a Cub
Don’t shout or makes noises to get their attention.
Be patient and let the wildlife approach you this provides for a more natural setting as they are relaxed.
Use the Longest lenses you can afford, I use the canon 100-400mm IS on a Canon 50D Body with a flash extender if necessary.
For the longest time I‘ve wanted to photographer a grizzly cubs and in the past few years have managed to get this opportunity.
