Deep down I have always wanted to go to this final frontier, Mostly to experience true nature , I have camped and spent long hours outdoors but haven’t really felt true nature even when I was spending hrs. with grizzlies in the Rockies. I was hoping I can find that piece of Nature that I am looking for.......and I surely did.

A review of our Trip to Haines, Alaska with details on the route we took and the campsites we stayed at.

Our Journey begins in the backdrop of the Rockies at a place that I am privileged to call home, Chestermere.

The Journey ………………………………

We decided to take a longer route and go through Banff National Park enroute to our first campsite In Jasper national park. The route takes us through one of the world’s most scenic drives the Ice Fields Parkway. We plan to leave early in the morning and get to the mountains early enough when the wildlife is still active and the light should be perfect at that time to snap some shots if we get lucky.

On our first day we traveled through Banff and continued to lake Louise and on to Jasper, Hinton and William Switzer National Park and our first campsite on the journey.

This was our longest day of driving and after this we paced our driving to around 5 hrs. a day.

Day Two: We drove across the border into BC and headed to Charlie Lake , a beautiful and scenic drive awaited us. The campsite is just outside the town of Fort Saint John and you can get your Starbucks fix here;). The town has all the amenities and you can stock up on all your necessities.

It's one of the better campsites we stayed at and although just outside the town you'd never guess it.

Day Three: Next on the way was summit lake campground, but we messed up and somehow booked summit lake in Central BC somewhere. We then decided to drive and find a campground close to where we were planning to stay and lucked out and got the one of the most beautiful campsites of our trip, Tetsa River regional Campground. If you get a chance, stay at this place and you will not be disappointed. BEWARE- We had a visitor, a juvenile black bear early in the morning as we were busy packing our tent and my 9 year old was playing in the bushes when this guy decided to show up . I saw a glimpse of something black in the campsite next to us and quickly got everyone in the car and tried to shoo away the bear, but he was more interested in what was in the cooler in the back of the car and left us with a few souvenirs (some deep scratches on the bumper). He promptly ran off when I started the car.

On our way we stopped at Dawson Creek the start of the Alaska Highway , Mile 0

Day Four: Still headed north, crossed the border into the Yukon territory to our next stop Watson Lake.

We didn't have any campsites booked because in the Yukon you can't really book . So went to Watson lake Info center and the world famous Sign Post Forest. The Watson Lake Campground was located about 4km from the town and was a pretty decent campground however be careful when choosing a site as they are not all flat and it fills up quite early .

Day Five : Next on the Journey was Whitehorse . We couldn't find any campgrounds and decided to stay in a hotel and get some laundry done. Nothing much to see in Whitehorse and we wanted to hit the highway to Haines junction, oh but they had Starbucks . We headed out, of course after my fix .

Day Six: On our way we stopped at the Haines Junction Info center and the DAKU cultural center this had to be the most interesting info center's on our journey. We spent about 2 hours here. The Haines Junction drive is one of the most scenic drives I have ever driven and decided to take our time driving to Haines, Alaska.

kluane National Park is breathtaking.

Crossing the border was easy and fast and we headed to Haines. But before that you have to take a picture at the border crossing or 2 or 3

And as you can see we were ecstatic to say the least...

Part 2 , the Journey back coming soon.
